A six week programme aimed at KS1 age groups to set the foundations of fundamental
movement skills through a variety of practical activities and sessions.
Intent
– To set the foundations of Agility, Balance and Coordination in children aged 4 – 7 years.
-Introduce the meaning of what Agility, Balance and Coordination is and give practical examples.
-Prepare the children to perform fundamentals sport specific skills in lower KS2.
Implementation
-6 Week block of classroom-based work.
Week Content
Week 1 Agility Walking, running, jumping skipping
Week 2 Balance Body weight balances and counter balance
Week 3 Coordination Running dynamics, foot placement and power development
Week 4 Agility Acceleration, deceleration, change of direction
Week 5 Balance Jumping and landing
Week 6 Coordination Throwing and catching
Impact
-Improvement based on fundamental movement skill assessment taken pre and post intervention.
-Children are sufficient in the fundamental movements of:
Walking
Running
Jogging
Skipping
Acceleration
Deceleration
Jumping
Throwing
Catching
One – point balance
Two – point balances
Counter Balances
-Children are prepared to apply the fundamental skills to sport specific actions in the next stage of their
development.
